Chic and Cozy: Top Coat Trends for Autumn/Winter 2023

When it comes to choosing a new coat this winter you want something with the greatest functionality and wearability. I’ve put together the best of the high street to match the top trends this season.

Floor Sweeping, Tailored or Belted Coats

This coat requires minimal effort in styling whilst giving maximum impact in look. It’s super chic, and pulls any outfit together from a school run, lunch with the girls or a date night out. Seen gracing the catwalks on many a show from YSL to The Row. Here are a few high-street versions that fit the bill.

The Toggle Jacket

We saw it last year and it looks set to stay and for one I’m glad, this outerwear piece has the nostalgia of a vintage look but set with modern tones. Toteme and Prada lead the way in sherling for me but Mango have an incredible alternative and you’ll find it hard to spot the difference.

The Bomber

The bomber jacket is still going strong this season and is perfect for those fresh crisp days when a coat is just too heavy. The ideal look is the ‘oversized, borrowed from my boyfriend‘ look and this season we are not just limited to the classic satin aviator style, we have luxe fabrics to choose including suede and leather which are big this season. Spotted on the runway of Isabel Marant and YSL, the bomber jacket provides an alternative to the reliable blazer, simply wear it with your favourite denims or over your knit dress. It’s a lot more versatile than you may think.

Best of the high street.

Faux Fur

An autumn winter mainstay and for good reason. A faux fur coat or jacket provides warmth on those cold dark winter days but also brings the glamour and fun element to elevate a simple look. The coat offers minimal styling whilst providing maximum impact and head-turning. Spotted on the runway of Stella McCartney, Bottega Veneta the high street has a good selection to choose from and here are some of our favourite picks.

Luxury Leather Trench Coats

The classic autumn-winter staple has just been given an ultra-luxe update. We first saw it on the catwalk of YSL and Chanel swapped the classic cotton gaberdine for leather and it wasn’t long till the celebrity influencers picked up on the trend. (i.e. Kim Kardashian) So naturally the high street followed and so here are our favourite picks from the high street.

This season make sure to choose a coat that fits with you and your lifestyle, because this allows you to wear the coat with multiple items in your wardrobe and serve its purpose. Ideally, you want this coat to live in your wardrobe for many years so invest as much as you can in a coat because good quality will last a lifetime. See your coat as an investment or break it down as daily spend per wear. Happy shopping!
